Something's in the air.You can smell the rain coming.
The leading edge of a big Pacific storm heading our way.
You've reached the end of the line if you end up here. This is North Palm Springs - not exactly living up to the legend of its historic neighbor - but one can get a date shake there.
Folks, you can't make this stuff up. Newly-elected GOP House member Andy Harris (R-MD), who campaigned vigorously against the health care program and defeated the incumbent Democrat, is upset because his government health care won't take effect until a month after he takes office.
“This is the only employer I’ve ever worked for where you don’t get coverage the first day you are employed,” his spokeswoman Anna Nix told POLITICO.
One can only assume that these people think we are all idiots and rubes. Perhaps we are.
We are spending more and more time in San Diego. I guess that I finally realize that although I think I have a rural soul, I more or less have an urban mind. It's the same old story told for thousands of years.....
On a simply beautiful Saturday, Avie and I paid a visit to Adams Street in San Diego for the annual Roots Festival. We saw a number of very fine bands and performers.
One of our favorites was San Diego's Mr. Gregory Page. When we first walked up to the bandstand, he was singing along to an old jazz-age recording, which immediately drew our attention. Mr. Page is eclectic, eccentric, stylish, and very witty, as well as being a terrific songwriter. I shot a brief video of Mr. Page, which can be viewed at the end of this post.
Another very good band was Folding Mr. Lincoln - another San Diego based band. Pure American rocking country.
I wasn't able to catch this three-piece blues band's name, but they made some beautiful blues. They are also featured in the video at the end of this post.
Other things in the neighborhood caught my eye, as is often the case...
On a lovely weekend in southern California, and dancing to the soulful music of Solid Ray Brown, good times are to be had by all.
Just to share this video of the late Joe Strummer performing on David Letterman shortly before his death. This is a great song - it was used a few years ago as the theme for the HBO series "John from Cincinnati."
It was a beautiful Saturday morning in San Diego, and a perfect day to visit the Farmers Market in Little Italy. So that's what we did. This particular market in always lively and interesting, with lots of great food. One wonderful thing about San Diego is the Farmers Market scene - one can find at least one every day of the week.
