Lilacs in Highland Park, Rochester - May 2009

My few days in Rochester had to include a visit to Highland Park on the southside. This treasure of a park, designed by renowned park designer Frederick Law Olmsted in the late 1800s hosts the annual Lilac Festival, which had just concluded a few days before my visit.

It was a warm evening just before Memorial Day.

The lilacs were perhaps a few days past their peak.

But were still quite beautiful.

The air was filled with that lovely scent.

A scent which immediately brings back my childhood.

There's something comforting in seeing new
generations introduced to the wonders of lilacs.
